Today the UK is being blanketed with snow. Just check the Twitter hash-tag to see how some people are being affected #uksnow.

If you are indoors feeling all snug and warm, the thought of going outside may make you gasp while you’re sipping your cup of tea. However this weather is perfect for checking if your roof insulation is actually doing it’s job.

To check if your roof is insulated well, do the following:

  1. Put on some warm clothes
  2. Go outside
  3. Look up
  4. Go inside
  5. Put the kettle on

Now ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does my roof have more or less snow on it that the other houses around here?
  • Is my roof covered in snow?
  • Is my roof clear?
  • Do I look like a crazy person standing outside and looking up into the sky? (Yes, you do)

If your roof is covered in snow, has a similar amount or more than your neighbours then your roof is adequately insulated.

If your roof is clear or has significantly less snow on than your neighbours then your roof is not insulated well enough.

Most local insulation companies will come round and do a free assessment so get it done sooner rather than later. It will save you money on energy bills!

How does your roof look today? Leave a comment and let us know.

It is worth checking yrou roof immediately after a sever winter, and lets face it, 2013 was exactly that, every roof in the country has been tested!

To put off any potential bigger problems in teh future you want to check things now as its becoming more mild.

      Hey newport roofing company

Thanks for the comment! You’re right, now things are getting more mild and the April showers are among us, it’s a great time to get out there and check the roof. Also worth mentioning guttering… Get this checked! Nesting birds and fallen leaves cause havoc on guttering. Get these cleaned out to avoid serious damp and structural issues.
